LA's Promise Charter Middle School #1

Recognizing the need for strong middle school educational opportunities in South Los Angeles, LA Promise Fund, a nonprofit education organization, has opened LA’s Promise Charter Middle School #1 (LAPCMS#1). Growing from 135 sixth grade students in the 2016-17 school year, it will serve 435 students in grades 6-8 by the fall of 2018. The middle school will be career-focused to align with three themed Small Learning Communities: Health, Business, and Science/Technology/Engineering/Mathematics (STEM).

All three Small Learning Communities will incorporate essential hands-on digital learning tools, which simultaneously build core standards mastery and fundamental computer skills (e.g. typing, online research). The aim of this blended learning education strategy is to provide the necessary technological foundation to prepare students for the 21st Century workplace.

LAPCMS#1 will build upon LA Promise Fund’s record of progress in the South LA community. The establishment of LAPCMS#1 will allow LA Promise Fund to reinforce its mission of college- and career-readiness for all students with a small and innovative learning environment that engages students by way of personalized instruction, robust wraparound services, and a variety of enrichment opportunities.
